There’s a very understandable drive with all animals to hoard things. Often, this is resources directly linked to survival of the species…food….water….mates…etc.
But as a human, and a very lucky human at that, my typical hoarding behaviours come in the form of ideas. I have an idea. Maybe it will be amazing and make me rich or influential or admired or any of the other realistically very meaningless things I could “be.”
If I share that idea, maybe someone else will “steal” it, and become rich or influential or admired INSTEAD of me. But if I do share an idea and that idea is something I have no time to work on and I keep it quiet and no-one is inspired to work on it….does that possibly prevent the advancement of my fellow humans? And in so doing, does that make me a selfish jerk?
Yes, and no, and yes, and no.
So, I have too many ideas to work on and I am going to start posting some of my ideas as just the ideas they are. And if someone goes on to be inspired by those ideas and create something awesome from them and I don’t profit from them beyond knowing that I might have been the catalyst that brought it to life in someone else’s hands, so be it.
